to conduct our monthly Mounted Shooting events.
February through October. (except May when the Arena is preparing for the Pro-Rodeo)
9:30AM-2PM on the 4th Sunday of the month.
Check the 'Home' & 'Mounted' pages for the latest status on all scheduled gatherings.
We usually conduct a first class Mounted Shoot at our Fowler City facility using our 'Corral on the Flats' at all of our Multi-day Matches.
GILA RANGERS MOUNTED SHOOTING NEWS
Although the weather has been generally cold and wet, the Mounted Shooting Workshop at Corralitas was well attended by at least 40 participants, including our youngest member of the mounted shooting division, Precious Salina, all eager to begin sharing quality time shooting with their horses! Hopefully, a few of these folks will be coming up to Silver City on the 4th Sunday of this month, February 27th, at the Southwest Horsemen's Arena, to participate in the Gila Rangers Mounted Division event.
The Captain and I will be there by 9:00am for set up and practice, with the Safety Meeting at 10:00am, and shooting of the wily balloons beginning at 11:00am.
We will appreciate any help that club members can offer…from manning the loading/unloading table, working the gate, keeping score, or just cheering us on.
The 4th Sunday mounted shoots will be held at Southwest Horsemen's Arena from February through October, with the exception of the May shoot, which will have to be scheduled out at Fowler City at the Corral on the Flats (the arena will be closed in preparation for the Rodeo).
Speaking of the Rodeo, for anyone who hasn’t heard yet, the Gila Rangers will be producing Rodeo Parade and Heritage Exhibit event in Gough Park this year, complete with a daring Bill the Kid capture, and busting balloons with blanks at the Park afterwards. Plan to join in the fun…enter in the parade, participate in the capture of Billy! Contact Capt Eli or Chico Cheech for details.

~ CMSA Mounted Shooting at The Double E Guest Ranch ~
The Double E Ranch located in Gila, New Mexico, just a few miles north/west of Silver City, is offering a Mounted Shooting Clinic from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, with dates to suit your schedule. Contact Alan Eggleston for more information or call them at 866-242-3500/505-535-2048.
Alan is a member of CMAS #1435. Cowboy mounted shooting has become one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in the country. Blending such disciplines as reining, barrel racing and horsemanship, the sport of mounted shooting requires teamwork between rider and horse. Using two .45 caliber revolvers and blank ammunition, the rider must be able to accurately shoot 10 balloon targets set in one of 75 different patterns while controlling his horses' speed and direction.
Led by Ranch Owner Alan Eggleston, clinic participants will receive personal instruction and plenty of experience in such areas as basic gun and horse safety, shooting horsemanship, course and shooting techniques, training your own horse to shoot and competition clothing requirements.
